How to Download Your Digitized Videos

Thank you for choosing Vidley Digital to preserve your memories! Your digitized videos are stored securely on Google Cloud for easy access and backup. Follow the steps below to download your files safely to your computer, external drive, or cloud storage.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • A stable internet connection
  • Enough free storage on your computer or external drive
  • Access to the Google account we shared your videos with

Tip: If you do not have a Google account, you can still download the videos from the drive directly.

Option 1: Download Directly to an External Drive (USB or Hard Drive)

Windows Users (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera)

  1. Plug in your USB drive or external hard drive.
  2. Open the link from Vidley Digital in your web browser.
  3. Locate the folder containing your digitized videos.
  4. Right-click on a video file and select Download.
  5. When the Save As window appears:
    • On the left sidebar, find your external device under “This PC” or “Devices and Drives.”
    • Select your drive and click Save.
  6. Your file will now download directly to your external device.

If you don’t see a Save As window, your browser may automatically download files to your Downloads folder. See “How to Change Default Download Location” below.

Mac Users (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera)

  1. Connect your USB drive or external hard drive.
  2. Open Google Drive in your browser.
  3. Find your video files, then Control + Click (or right-click) the file and choose Download.
  4. In the Save As window:
    • Click the downward arrow next to “Where” or “Destination.”
    • Choose your external device from the list.
    • Click Save.
  5. The file will download directly to your external drive.

Tip: On Mac, external drives appear on the left panel in Finder under “Locations.”

Option 2: Save to Cloud Storage (No Local Download Required)

You can transfer your videos from Vidley Digital’s Google Drive to your own cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud).

Google Drive to Your Own Google Drive

  1. Open the shared Vidley Digital Google Drive folder.
  2. Right-click a file and select Make a copy.
  3. Drag or move the copied file to “My Drive” or any folder you choose in your account.

Google Drive to Dropbox or OneDrive

  1. Open Google Drive and Dropbox or OneDrive in separate browser tabs.
  2. Download the video from Google Drive, then upload it into your Dropbox or OneDrive folder.
  3. Optional: Install the “Save to Dropbox” browser extension to transfer files directly without downloading to your computer.

Google Drive to iCloud (Mac Users Only)

  1. Open Finder.
  2. In Finder’s sidebar, open Google Drive and iCloud Drive.
  3. Drag the video file from Google Drive into your iCloud Drive folder.

Option 3: Download to Your Computer

If you’d like to download all your videos together:

  1. In Google Drive, hold Shift and click to select multiple files (or click once on the folder).
  2. Right-click and select Download.
  3. Google will automatically compress them into a ZIP file.
  4. Once downloaded, double-click the ZIP file to extract the videos.

Note: ZIP downloads may take longer depending on file size and internet speed.

How to Change Your Browser’s Default Download Location

If your browser automatically saves files to your computer, you can change it so it asks you where to save each time.

Google Chrome (Windows & Mac)

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) → Settings → Downloads.
  2. Click Change next to “Location” and select your external drive.
  3. Turn on Ask where to save each file before downloading.

Safari (Mac Only)

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences > General.
  2. Under “File download location,” click Other…
  3. Choose your external drive and click Choose.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) → Settings → Downloads.
  2. Under “Location,” click Change and select your external drive.
  3. Turn on Ask me what to do with each download.

Firefox

  1. Click the three-line menu (☰) → Settings.
  2. Under “Files and Applications,” find “Save files to.”
  3. Click Browse and select your external drive.

Opera

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) → Settings > Advanced > Downloads.
  2. Click Change and select your external drive.
